Snorkelling

The simplest and cheapest way to see the reef. Many beaches have good snorkelling just a few metres from the shore, particularly in calm lagoons. Blue Bay Marine Park in the south-east is a protected area with rich coral and fish, and boats take you to the best spots.

For beginners, a guided snorkel is a good idea, as a guide will show you where the fish are and help you feel safe.

Glass-bottom boats and semi-submersibles

If you prefer to stay dry, a glass-bottom boat takes you over the coral while you watch through the floor. Blue Bay is especially popular for this and is great for small children and older guests.

Undersea walks

On an undersea walk you wear a light helmet that supplies air and walk slowly along the seabed, surrounded by fish. You do not need to swim, and glasses wearers can keep them on. It is a very popular family activity at several bays.

Submarine trips

A small submarine takes you deeper to see the reef and marine life from a comfortable seat. It is a great choice for anyone who cannot or does not want to get in the water.

Snuba and scooters

Snuba is a mix between snorkelling and diving, where your air tank floats at the surface. Underwater scooters let you glide through the water with a helmet. Both are offered at selected resorts and operators.

Go in the morning, when the sea is calm and the light is bright. Take reef-safe sunscreen and do not touch the coral.
