Head out from the Black River area on the west coast to look for whales and dolphins in their natural habitat. Humpback whales pass Mauritius between June and October, and sperm whales and several dolphin species are seen year round. The skippers are certified and follow local law, which forbids swimming with whales, so you watch quietly from the boat while the guide explains the animals' behaviour. Trips are small and respectful, with the welfare of the animals put first.

Frequently asked questions

Is the best season for whale watching?

Sperm whales are most commonly seen from around July to December - contact us for current seasonal information.

What should I bring?

Swimwear, a towel, reef-safe sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses and a light jacket for the ride back. A waterproof bag is handy for your phone.

I get seasick - is it OK?

The open sea can be choppy. Take seasickness tablets before you leave if you are prone to it, and eat a light breakfast.

Can I swim with the whales?

No. Swimming with whales is forbidden by Mauritian law. You watch them from the boat.

Are sightings guaranteed?

No. The animals are wild, but the west coast has a very good sighting record, especially in humpback season.

Is the price per person?

The price shown is per person unless the page says per group or per vehicle. Children's rates, where they apply, are shown when you choose your guests.

How do I book?

Send us an enquiry on this page or message us on WhatsApp with your date and the number of guests. We check availability, confirm the price in writing and only then ask you to pay.

Can you arrange a hotel pick-up?

Yes. Tell us where you are staying and we will quote a return transfer. The price depends on the distance from your hotel.

What happens if the weather is bad?

If the operator cancels for weather or safety reasons, we help you move to another day or arrange a refund in line with the operator's terms.

Can I change or cancel my booking?

Tell us as early as possible. Change and cancellation terms depend on the operator, and we confirm them in writing before you pay.
