Seven Days in Mauritius: A Relaxed First-Timer’s Itinerary
Seven days is enough to see the highlights of Mauritius without rushing. A relaxed first week looks like this: two beach days to settle in, a catamaran or dolphin trip, a day in the south-west for Chamarel and the Black River Gorges, Port Louis and the botanical garden, a day on Ile aux Cerfs, and a free last day.
Mauritius is small enough to see a lot in a week, but the best trips leave room to slow down. This itinerary balances beach time with the sights people fly here for, and every day works from any coast.
Days 1 and 2: arrive and settle in

Day 3: catamaran or dolphins

Day 4: Chamarel and the south-west
Drive to Chamarel for the Seven Coloured Earth and the waterfall, then continue to the viewpoints of the Black River Gorges National Park. The Rhumerie de Chamarel is a good lunch stop. Finish with a sunset at Le Morne if you have the energy.
Day 5: Port Louis and the north
Explore Port Louis: the Central Market for street food, the Aapravasi Ghat UNESCO site and lunch at the Caudan Waterfront. In the afternoon, visit the Pamplemousses Botanical Garden with its giant water lilies, then have dinner in Grand Baie.
Day 6: Ile aux Cerfs
Take a boat to Ile aux Cerfs off the east coast for white sand and calm turquoise water. Go early to beat the crowds, and add water sports if you like. The Ile aux Cerfs day trip includes the boat.
Day 7: free day and shopping
Keep the last day loose for a spa, a final swim or souvenirs. If you fly out in the evening, pre-order duty-free so the airport is stress-free.
Plan only one big outing a day and keep the evenings for the beach. Travel times in Mauritius are short on the map but slower on village roads.
